Fenugreek. Haven’t heard of this spice before? Now you have.

Fenugreek is one of the world’s oldest medicinal herbs while the seeds are an indispensable spice in vegetarian Indian curries. Widely used throughout North Africa, the Middle East, and India, Fenugreek gives vegetable dishes a blast of flavour making this an ideal spice in vegan cuisine. The seed is most often fried in a little oil, or dry roasted and ground before use. The raw seeds produce an unpleasant and bitter taste, however when dry roasted the seeds present a pleasant nutty maple like flavour. More info below the photo.

Fenugreek is also thought to help reduce menstrual cramps, increase the production of breast milk, amplify the male libido, and serve as an aphrodisiac. But seriously, DO NOT take our word for it; it would make handling customer complaints pretty awkward.

This great video provides a nice little intro into this otherwise obscure spice.
